I'm at the opening of Australian photographer Rex Dupain's The Colour of Bondi exhibition at the Michael Reid Gallery in Berlin Mitte. I like photographing at these cramped exhibition openings. All the layering of people and contrasting facial expressions is great photographic training. A camera with little shutter-lag and quick autofocus helps as well.
The attraction of a photograph can increase through its location and by its age (not always of course). Rex Dupain's Bondi photos are shot on the other side of the planet, mainly around Sydney's Bondi Beach. Looking at these photographs here in Berlin, far away from any beach, reminds me how stark and radiant Australian light can be.
